Misogynoir and those invested in keeping it fueled are always finding new ways to reinvent it and package it to us in different forms. I’d argue that the purpose of these various vehicles driving misogynoir is to increase the success of us buying into the message that “Black Womxn aint shit”. Given that repetition is the threshold of mastery, the ritual of hyper-objectifying Black Womxn consequences in many of us believing that Black Womxn’s domain in society is limited to sex or other objectifying positions. Misogynoir was coined in 2010 by a Queer Black Feminist scholar by the name of Moya Bailey. This concept helps us to understand how misogyny manifest in the lives of Black Womxn. In general, feminine beings have to navigate a world that is proactive in snuffing their divine power and their probability of potential. We find though that when we add intersections of race and sexuality, amongst other things, misogyny complicates the lives of Womxn of color even more. Regardless of how we attempt to mask it or minimalize it, much of pop-culture and other parts of our society thrives off of an agenda that intends to dehumxnize and undermine the value of Black Womxn. Some examples of these include but are not limited to reality TV, commercialized Hip Hop, and other facets of pop culture that over-consume us with racist and sexist images of Black womxn as hyper-sexual, loud, and unable to merge or fit into society’s paradigm.

We have heard this argument for many years from many scholars who have called our attention to critically looking at media and pop-culture and its messages about folks of color. The reason though that our attention must continue to be called to this is because it continues to persist. Many non-Black folks and Black folks have bought into this idea that Black Womxn are unworthy of anything outside of fucking or cooking or are worthy if we can cook and fuck. Within pop-culture there are moments that happen that continue to reinforce to us that this is the mindset that is held about us. Recently the internet has been buzzing about the new sex dolls that are becoming more popular because of their “realistic” features. Several conversations have come out of this sex doll frenzy but one in particular chaps my ass and above all highly disappoints me. Before I go into my rant, I want to be clear that this ignorancy that you are about to read is not ubiquitous amongst ALL Black men, nor is this unique to Black Men. There are other men who perpetuate this bullshit and brothaz who don’t perpetuate this bullshit. There are several Negros however that need to be reminded of who and where you come from, and I will read you for filth while re-jogging your memory.

To the Black Men whom were on the internet questioning if Black Womxn felt threatened by a doll or to the ones claiming that you no longer needed Black Womxn or any womxn for that matter because you have something that doesn’t talk back, you are in deep suffering. You are in deep suffering because colonial powers have beat into you a reference point for womxnhood that relegates us to objects. You forgot that it is largely because of the organizing, love, and intellect of Black Womxn that your boldness to imagine, even if it is something absurd, is possible. You forgot that prayers from great grandmothers have kept you protected and thriving in a world that fears and despises you. You forgot that white men hxstorically as a collective have showed little praise, worship and respect to their gender counterparts, and taught you to do the same. It is disappointing and infuriating for you to start competitions in your mind between womxn/black womxn/feminine beings and dolls given that we are more than deserving to be more to you than nets to catch your battery acid sperm. What’s even more interesting is the fact that yawll are entertaining these conversations about these dolls, considering that a lot of yawll are broke and these dolls run for at least $3000.00. White men have created these dolls and are selling them at prices that can be afforded by largely, other white men.

I guess I am curious to know why many Black Men want to escape us. When White Womxn learn to fry chicken or have fat asses, we are reminded that we can be disposed of. When White Men make dolls that take on the stereotypical features of Black Womxn’s bodies we are reminded that we can be disposed of. But I am here to remind you that, N*igga that doll won’t be at the next Black Lives Matter rally defending your right to live!
